We highly recommend sealing your cane with our NEW Woodgard Timbapreservative.

A premium, deep-penetrating solvent-based wood preservative designed specifically for harsh outdoor environments. Unlike standard varnishes, Timbapreservative feeds the wood, providing high UV protection and water repellency without peeling or flaking. Perfect for handcrafted furniture, cane work, and exterior timber.

Technical Specifications:

• Finish: Low Sheen / Matte (Enhances natural grain)

• Base: Solvent-based (Oil-based)

• Application Tool: Brush, Roller, or HVLP Spray Gun (1.4mm nozzle recommended)

• Coverage: Approximately 10m² per liter per coat (Varies based on wood porosity)

• Drying Time:

  • Touch Dry: 4 hours

  • Overcoating Time: 24–48 hours (depending on humidity and temperature)

• Thinning: Use Mineral Turpentine (Only required for first coat on raw timber or cleaning)

• Cleanup: Mineral Turpentine

Important: Once the sealer has been applied please allow a cure time to dry of 36 - 48 hours. Do not wet before then.

Rain & Damp

Keep your cane covered and out of rainy, humid conditions. Keeping cane in these damp conditions may result in the cane becoming dark, dull and sometimes mouldy. If your cane develops dark mouldy spots, simply use soapy water and a scrubbing brush to remove.

Sunlight

Keep cane out of direct sunlight and heat in order to prevent it from getting brittle over time. Sealing the cane using a high-oil content furniture polish keeps the cane supple. Lemon oil or mineral oil (used sparingly) applied to the cane furniture once a year is sufficient to keep it maintained.
